This was a different kind of shoot — not editorial, not commercial in the usual sense. Yura Kap photographs anatomical figure studies that go to art schools and students who use them as reference: drawing, painting, sculpture, anatomy classes. The body is the subject in the most literal way. The brief was simple and exacting.
A series of studio figure studies on a neutral concrete backdrop, lit with directional warm light to emphasise the geometry of the body — the angles of joints, the curve of the spine, the lines that show up when a flexible body holds a position long enough for the light to find them.
Each image was built for a specific study purpose: hand placement, foot extension, side bend, asymmetrical balance, the way muscle and bone surface under skin from a particular angle. The shots are designed to be useful — to artists who need to understand how a body actually works in space.
Yura Kap (also working under the studio mark YURYKAP STUDIO) is a studio photographer working in figure photography, anatomical reference series, and editorial commissions. Pose endurance and shape literacy. For an anatomical study, the model has to hold a position cleanly while the photographer works the light, tries different angles, refines the frame. Each held pose can run several minutes. Aerial training turns out to be excellent prep for this — you’re used to holding shapes much longer than a regular editorial shoot demands.
The other thing is shape vocabulary. When Yura wanted a particular line — a hand extended a certain way, a leg dropped at a particular angle, a back bend that showed the spine cleanly — I could give him several versions of it without long resets. That keeps the session moving and the photographer focused on the light and frame, not on coaching me into shapes.
